Delta Airlines

Image
After traveling for six plus hours the last thing I wanted to do was analyze advertisements, but that is exactly what I did. While walking through the tunnel to get on the last plane the walls were plastered with little slogans and pictures showing the customers how amazing the airline really was. All of the pictures showed men and women smiling and enjoying the picture perfect flight that they were apparently on. All were being served amazing food and staying connected with complimentary WiFi. Because of my exhaustion and overall bad mood I was lured in by these advertisements and wished with all of my heart that this Delta flight would be as heavenly as pictured. Sadly I was mistaken, the plane was still crowded, with no WiFi, bad peanuts, and the occasional glass of water. However before entering the plane to see the reality of our situation those advertisements had completely convinced me that Delta airlines was ahead of the times and overall amazing.   ...

Bratz dolls

The character of the midriff, created by the media can still be seen throughout the world today. The character of the midriff is a young girl who is prematurely adolescent, obsessed with her looks, and portrays herself as an individual who's only asset is her body. This kind of girl is constantly portrayed across the media and has undoubtedly shaped the minds and actions of young girls today. It is a kind of "feed back loop" where the media broadcasts certain girls who fit the midriff's description and in turn the girls who see this media are influenced by their actions.       The aspect of being prematurely adolescent is highlighted in a cartoon television program that was very popular around 2005-2008 and targeted towards girls around the ages of 9-12.  Throughout the entire show the characters are seen partying, sneaking out, dressing a little more on the revealing side, and overall acting dumb. These characters intellects were never highlig...

The perfect billboard, celebrities

Image
The ultimate form of advertising is possibly where we would least expect it, the red carpet. At events attended by Hollywood elite no one would expect what really goes on behind the scenes is not all glamorous, but mostly strategic. Celebrities are essentially the perfect walking billboards, because every time they are asked, "who are you wearing?" the whole world waits with baited breath to know. And once that answer has been given everyone tuning in to the Grammy's, Tony's, or Golden Globes, will hear the brand that their favorite celebrity has supposedly chosen.        The reason this kind of advertising is so successful is because almost every average person strives to be extraordinary like some celebrity icon that everyone has. Therefore, when we find out what kind of clothes or brand our idol has chosen we naturally project our love for the individual onto the brand itself. What this results in is us as consumers deciding we need ...

The Good Place

Image
The Good Place is an amazing show that defies many stereotypes and as a result send positive messages to many different demographics. To begin with the cast as a whole is incredibly diverse as the main characters consist of someone who is Asian, white, African, and Indian. In addition to the core group the situations each character is put in is full of different kinds of people in terms of race, sexuality, and personality. These aspects culminate to send an incredibly effective, entertaining, and positive message.           The creator of The Good Place is a man by the name Micheal Schur. Micheal Schur has created Parks and Rec, The Office, and The Good Place, so clearly he is an expert in the field of smash hit comedies. However reflecting back on the comedies he has done before a very common theme is the overall lack of diversity. Although this in part could be equated to the times the shows were produced the two other come...

Modern Family

Image
The Modern Family episode works the technique of Madison and vine seamlessly into season 6 episode 16. In this episode the entire show takes place on a main characters computer while she is stuck in an airport. This computer is very clearly the most recent apple laptop and throughout the episode we are able to see all of the highlights of this new computer. In addition to being delivered an incredibly entertaining television program, I was also drawn into the amazing machine being showcased on the screen in front of me.                The Madison and vine technique is when in a media platform a product is strategically placed in a situation that makes the product look better, this could also be referred to as product placement. The key to Madison and vine is if the product has been placed in the media so seamlessly that the audience is not aware that they are being marketed to. For this reason this episo...

The Christmas "Prince"

Image
I watched the movie The Christmas Prince a Royal Wedding  and despite the terrible acting I was rather taken aback by some of the underlying messages conveyed throughout the plot. Throughout the movie there was a common theme of the fact that the entire cast, excluding two minor characters, were white. This later played into a larger problem that I saw develop, however originally I wondered who decided that basically the entire cast should be white with blonde hair. For this reason I looked up who the director of this movie is, and it is a man named John Schultz. No surprise to me he is also a white man with blonde hair. Because the director is only part of the reason certain individuals are cast in a role I also looked up who the casting director was. She is a women by the name of Melissa DeLiza who is white, however this time, does not have blonde hair. These are the two individuals who had the most power when it came to appointing the cast, an...
